Fall River Guided Trip with Confluence Outfitters

Event Skill Levels:

  • Fishing: requires basic casting and line management skills.
  • Stream: Beginner to advanced (some highly technical water)
  • Catch success rate: Varies but generally very good with guide taking you to the best locations and giving tips on how and where to cast

This is one of two premier spring creek waters in California (along with nearby Hat Creek) and is teeming with fish, although it requires a boat and much scouting to find them in the river with technical fishing. If you missed last month's presentation at the TVFF monthly meeting by Andrew Harris of Confluence Outfitters on the Fall River, you can access that now for a full perspective on the trip. Andrew's presentation is available on the TVFF website on the Members page under "Presentations". It is the first one listed.

Anglers are responsible for their own lodging and travel costs as well as tips to the guides. Lodging costs are approximately $100 per person per night for a shared room depending on where you choose to stay.  Guide tips are generally about $40-60 per person. Carpooling is encouraged and is a fun way to get to know the other anglers. It is approximately 5.5 hours from Livermore to the river launch, so plan accordingly.

Cost:

Cash price: The cost is $300 per person for one day of guided fishing. Cost includes all gear, flies and lunch. Pay by check or cash directly to the Club Treasurer within two weeks of registration.

Credit Card price: The cost is $309 per person which includes the 3% credit card fee. Cost includes all gear, flies and lunch.

Guests must first register as Club members ($45 annual charge) before registering for this event. TVFF annual dues qualify you for a full 12 month membership and access to all Club events and full participation. After registering as a Club member, the above costs for the event will apply.

Fishmeister:   Mitchie McCammon

Accommodations and Food:

The trip includes one day of fishing. Overnight accommodations are recommended due to the distance to the Fall River. Each participant will be responsible to obtain lodging, and food except while on the boats. Lunches are provided by the guides on the river.

Hotel accommodations are available in Burney at the Green Gables or Charm Inn and are about a 40 minute drive to the river. Other accommodations are available in Fall River Mills at the HiMont Motel which is within 20 minutes of the boat launch. Camping sites are available at the Burney Falls/McArthur State Park on highway 89 about an hour from the Fall River, and also at the often club used Hat Creek Hereford Ranch RV Resort on highway 89 (also an hour's drive to the Fall River).

Gear and Tackle Recommendations:  5- to 7-weight, 9-ft length (or longer) with standard floating lines. Guides will provide all tackle from the fly line down. Rigs usually include two flies below an indicator. Also, many guides are happy to provide their own pre-rigged rods for anglers. Just ask!

Guides will provide the flies, and you should expect both nymph and dry fly fishing on this pristine, clear water spring creek. The water is full of weeds where the fish hide and the bugs thrive. Expect baetis, pale morning duns, caddis, and maybe even a few Hex's hatching late in the afternoon & evening.

TVFF Cancellation Policy:

To sign-up for a TVFF Event  that is currently open for registration and chargeable (as set by the Fishmeister), you must both register and pay online, or via check or cash, within two weeks of registering (sent to the TVFF Treasurer) whatever fee is described for that particular Event (trip) at the time of registration. There may be multiple payments required before the trip is actually taken (usually in the case of expensive trips), but it is necessary that you do make payment in the above timely fashion for the initial amount to secure your position on the trip.  However, please note that you are still responsible for the entire amount of the trip if you should need to cancel.

Once you are registered, there are no refunds for chargeable Events and trips.  In the situation that a member is, for any reason unable to attend, they may resell their registration slot to another TVFF member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  New participants must come first from the waitlist in the order they signed up.  The member cancelling is fully and solely responsible for contacting potential members to replace them and notifying the appropriate Fishmeister.

If an event/trip is fully registered and closed to registration, you may still sign up on the Wait List to be notified if there are any cancellations.  In such a case of registering provisionally on the Wait List, you do not have to pay until such time that you clear the Wait List and are confirmed for participation.
