Beginning Fly Fishing
Tri-Valley Fly Fishers offer the popular Fly Fishing Fundamentals Class taught by experienced club members for new members, and especially for those beginners just starting their fly fishing journey. The three-part course consists of two evenings of classroom instruction and one Saturday outdoor session with certified FFI casting instructors.
The class agenda is a comprehensive one that incorporates all of the necessary essentials to become a proficient fly fisher, and to enjoy participating in club outings. The curriculum includes:
At the conclusion of the class a beginner will be well-prepared for advancing to the fishing activity of their choice. Typically the class is offered in the Spring season, but we ask that you contact us to express your interest and your availability. We typically schedule a class when we have a minimum of eight signups and we welcome beginners and experienced fly fishers alike. The club provides rods, reels, and fly line setups for the casting lessons or the student’s own rods can be used at your option.
Fees for this course are: TVFF members $45, non-members $85. For non-members, the fee includes an annual TVFF membership through the end of the calendar year. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. A comprehensive presentation will be available to students provided in a downloadable PowerPoint/PDF from the TVFF Member website.
