Event Description: Introduction to the Yuba River Skwala Hatch

This Club developed session is to prepare Club members for the current and upcoming Skwala hatches on the lower Yuba river.  The course material consists of Skwala hatch entomology, suggested flies, recommended rigging, local maps, and successful fishing techniques, as well as local guide tips.

The Skwalas begin hatching in early January and are known as the first big bug hatch of the year and last until the end of March.  They can occur, weather dependent, in large populations of both dry flies and hatching nymphs that attract large fish in the Yuba, including Steelhead.  This year we are fortunate to have reserved the UC Property on the Yuba river in the prime season to fish the Skwalas.

This session will be followed by a Club fly tying session on Monday evening (requires separate registration), January 24, 2022 to equip our fly tying members with the suggested patterns.

Registration and Costs:

Note that the cost does not include fly tying materials and those wishing to attend the fly tying should anticipate bringing their own materials (details later).

This 3 hour class is being provided at no cost for TVFF members.  Guests will be charged $45, which includes an annual membership to TVFF for 2022.

Cash price: You may pay by check or cash directly to the Club Treasurer within two weeks of registration and not pay the credit card surcharge of 3.0% if you desire. If you do pay cash you will be put into "Pending Registration" until your payment is received within the two weeks. Late payments will require you to register once again if there is space still available. The cost for this class is $0 for TVFF members and $45 (includes an annual membership to TVFF) for non-members and guests.

Credit Card price: Price of $0 includes the payment by credit card with the 3.0% surcharge. Guest cost is $46.35 (includes an annual membership to TVFF) for non-members and guests.

Class Curriculum:

Session will focus on Skwala identification and hatch progression.  It will also include typical dry flies and nymphs to fish (with recommended vendors), leader and tippet rigging, Yuba river maps and recommended places to fish, and suggested techniques for successfully fishing the hatch with nymphs and dries.

TVFF Cancellation Policy

To sign-up for a TVFF Event  that is currently open for registration and chargeable (as set by the Fishmeister), you must both register and pay online, or via check or cash, within two weeks of registering (sent to the TVFF Treasurer) whatever fee is described for that particular Event (trip) at the time of registration. There may be multiple payments required before the trip is actually taken (usually in the case of expensive trips), but it is necessary that you do make payment in the above timely fashion for the initial amount to secure your position on the trip.  However, please note that you are still responsible for the entire amount of the trip if you should need to cancel.

Once you are registered, there are no refunds for chargeable Events and trips.  In the situation that a member is, for any reason unable to attend, they may resell their registration slot to another TVFF member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  New participants must come first from the waitlist in the order they signed up.  The member cancelling is fully and solely responsible for contacting potential members to replace them and notifying the appropriate Fishmeister.

If an event/trip is fully registered and closed to registration, you may still sign up on the Wait List to be notified if there are any cancellations.  In such a case of registering provisionally on the Wait List, you do not have to pay until such time that you clear the Wait List and are confirmed for participation.
